Cross-Sectoral Platform for Research on Cossack Crosses of Odesa

The Cross-Sectoral Platform for Research on Cossack Crosses of Odesa brings together research, digital documentation, and the preservation of monuments at Kuialnyk Cemetery in the village of Malyi Kuialnyk. Its aim is to foster public and professional interest in Cossack crosses as an important part of the Ukrainian history of southern Ukraine.

As part of the project, the team conducts on-site surveys, captures photogrammetric imagery, takes measurements, and records damage to Cossack grave crosses. These data are used to create 3D visualisations of the monuments with PBR textures and Gaussian Splatting technology.

The research results are stored in Repox, a cloud-based database developed by Talent S.A. The platform supports 3D models, Gaussian Splats, images, documents, metadata, and paradata. It enables users to organise digital assets into collections, store, view, and explore them, and subsequently aggregate the materials into Europeana.

The video, interactive album, digital models, 3D visualisations, and other materials have been created by the Pixelated Realities PO team to research, document, preserve, and promote cultural heritage. They do not replace the physical conservation, restoration, or protection of monuments.
