Oleksiy Shovkunenko Fine Arts Museum

Oleksiy Shovkunenko Fine Arts Museum

Fine arts museum in Kherson, named after the Ukrainian artist Oleksiy Shovkunenko. It was opened on May 27, 1978. The museum is located in the building of the former City Hall, an architectural monument built in 1905-1906.

On November 11, 2022, after 256 days of occupation the city was liberated. The collection of the museum was shamelessly robbed during the retreat of russian troops from the Ukrainian Armed Forces counteroffensive.

The expedition was carried out after the de-occupation of Kherson. Due to the proximity of the historical part of the city to the positions of the russians on the other bank of the Dnipro, there was a constant threat of close-range artillery shelling during filming. Each building in Kherson was 3D scanned for 20-30 minutes, after which the operator and convoy changed locations.

Before the occupation, the building was undergoing restoration, so part of the facade is surrounded by a construction fence. The scan captures the condition of the building before possible damage as a result of russian shelling.
